Front door maintenance and cleaning
To maintain the exterior appearance of your front door, all you need to do is clean with some warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Just give it a wipe down and focus on any dirt that might have built up from daily use. Doing this with the door both open and closed makes sure that you reach all the edges and get any hidden spots can be easily missed. It’s important that you don’t use any abrasive cleaners or rough sponges as they are harsh products that can damage the finish of your front door. When it comes to stubborn stains, use a non-abrasive cleaner to tackle any of those. Once you’ve given it a good clean, make sure you remove any excess liquid with a dry cloth, so you don’t leave any water marks.
Sparkling glass can transform the appearance of your front door, and it’s a simple fix for removing the grime of finger marks. You can use soapy water to clean the glass windows on your front door as well, but it’s best to use a microfibre cloth for the glass so that you avoid any streaking. You can also use a general glass cleaner for the glass sections of your door, that can be found in the supermarket to add some shine, creating a glistening finishing touch to your welcoming front door.
Our doors are built for high traffic use, but to keep your door performing well throughout its lifetime, the hardware might need some light maintenance. Wiping down the handles, hinges, letterboxes, knockers or any other hardware features with warm soapy water can ensure they are kept looking fresh and like with the door, make sure you wipe away any excess water. Again, don’t use any abrasive cleaners that may cause any damage. Every now and then you might need to tighten screws on the hinges to ensure the door is opening and closing smoothly and doesn’t squeak. All moving parts should also be regularly lubricated with a 3-1 oil equivalent, not WD40.
The simplest way to maintain the locking system of your composite door is to make sure that you’re using it properly. So, when the door is closed, make sure that the top and bottom locking points are both engaged. This will help the upkeep of the locking system and provide extra security for your home.
